The BCCI offered eight franchises up for auction for the first season
and the new potential teams were snapped up fast with a total of US$723.59mill being spent. On top of this a 10 year TV deal was stitched up bringing in a further US$1.026 billion in TV rights to guarantee the future of this exciting new competition. Indian property developer, DLF Group won the naming rights battle, kicking in a further $50mill.
Below we list the teams, their owners and the original purchase price of the teams, and the player lists. India's ODI captain, MS Dhoni, was the top priced player, being won with a bid of $1.5mill whilst Australia's Andrew Symonds came in second when his price was $1.35 mill.
