AUSTRALIAN TRIPLE CROWN 2007
Australian Night Championship.
The Australian Night Championship was played over two evenings at the Canberra International course in the Canberra suburb of Narrabundah.
With players from France, Holland and Ireland joining players from Queensland, NSW, ACT, Victoria and SA in a battle for the Australian Night Championship there was plenty of exciting Pitch and Putt on offer in the warm and humid conditions.
In the Mens championship, Alan Hanlon held off a determined Ian Farrelly to win his first Australian title, with fellow Irishmen Jim Judge completing the Irish clean sweep whilst James Rogerson again held off Stewart Genge as the top Australian.
In the mens B division, Bernhard Struyck of Holland took the title ahead of France's Jean Louis Goujon.
In the Womens championship, overnight leader Marie Hutchison was forced into a playoff after an intense battle with Sandra Hutchison and at the 19th hole, Sandra took the honours, with Holland;s Esther Newsum finishing third.
In B division, Francoise Moreau of France took the title from French ladies Michele Hudson and Nicole Auxietre whilst in C division, Australia's Brigid Malley won from Nathalie Goujon.
With both James Carroll and Liz Quinn being unable to win the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown, there will be no winner of the Triple Crown trophy in its inaugural year. Plans are under way for the next Triple Crown to be held in 2009, when players around the world will be able to fight for this elusive and special trophy.
