HISTORY -

For the past 30 years football contests have occurred between Australia and Ireland using a variety of "hybrid" rules.
In 1998 an "International Rules" series was developed and a 4 year commitment made to play an annual series between the 2 different codes, Australian Rules Football and Gaelic football.
The first of the modern series was played in Ireland in 1998, with the return series in Australia in 1999.
The annual Test series has now grown beyond anyones expectations with full houses at most stadia - its no wonder given that International Ruless football is the fastest and most exciting football code on the planet !!
Unfortunately the series was on hold in 2007 as a result of an exceptionally physical series in 2006, however, at least at the amateur level, International Rules football is growing fast with competitions developing in many countries.
