WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE

WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE 2006

The 2nd season of WIL saw the involvement of more Pitch and Putt courses and an attempt to introduce the international Pitch and Putt standard for course lengths and associated rules.

The number of teams leapt to 24 with courses from France, Canada, and Denmark joining along with a number of new teams from Australia.
For a complete list of those who played in the second season see bottom of this page...

Due to the number of entries and significant variation in playing standard, the competition was divided into divisions with the top ranked teams forming an elite Champions League playing off for the major title.

Australia's Canberra International, one of the shortest courses in the competition, won the Champions League from a team from Catalonia in Spain, Sant Cebria, a team playing on a course nearly 50% longer than Canberra Internationals.

In Division I, Horsholm from Denmark snatched victory in the last round by the narrowest of margins against Sant Jaume from Catalonia, who had led the division all season. It was disappointment again for the Catalans who finished second in the top two divisions.

In Division II, Tower Tee blazed away in the first few rounds and then faltered, unable to get enough players together in their rapidly approaching winter. The Division was won by Southern Cross from Australia.

2006 saw the first death of a current WIL player when Les Green of Glanville passed away suddenly during the season. We remember him fondly.
